Mark Taylor and Michael Slater have opened the batting for Australia more times than any other combination. In 78 Test innings, they put on over 50 runs on average, without loss. The Openers - Bill Brown and Arthur Morris

Although Arthur Morris and Bill Brown came from slightly different cricketing eras, and in fact, only opened the Australian innings twice together, they have much in common. Their Test averages are remarkably similar, they both captained Australia and both served in the 2nd World War, coming out of that to join Don Bradman's Ashes tour of 1948. Both then, wear that cricketing title of the highest distinction - Invincible. The central photograph is a specially created composite photograph of Bill Brown and Arthur Morris walking out to open the innings. This is the photograph that has been individually hand-signed by Bill Brown and Arthur Morris. In the photo on the left Bill Brown plays a delicate late cut. The Openers - David Boon and Geoff Marsh

'Swampie' and 'Boonie'. The more outgoing Marsh seemed to be the perfect foil for the redoubtable Boon, a man of few public words. These complementary qualities extended to their opening combination also, where the strokeplay of Marsh worked hand-in-glove with the pugnacious style of Boon. The Openers - Bobby Simpson and Bill Lawry

They strode onto the field Bill 'The Phantom' Lawry the lanky, imperturbable left-hander - and Bob Simpson a stocky, grand square cutter and good driver & they captained Australia a total of 25 times in their cricketing careers. Facing the opening attack never fazed them. In partnerships, Simpson and Lawry opened 62 innings, scored 3596 runs, lost only 3 wickets, had a top score of 382 with an average of 60.95 and scored 9 centuries and 18 half centuries.
